About Yoga & Meditation Class

Many people think, "I can't do yoga, I'm not a pretzel."  "Classes move too fast and I can't keep up."  If these thoughts have occurred to you, this is your class.

Some people think that slow and gentle classes don't have any benefits.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "I don't get a work out in a slow class." or "slow classes don't work."  It's true you won't work up a sweat, but you do benefit.  You tune-in to your body, mind and spirit.

Moving slowly allows you to get more fully into a pose, stretching your body in ways that you likely rarely move during normal daily activity.  Much of the benefit is internal, allowing core muscles, ligaments and joints to move freely, while gaining strength and flexibility.

If you find a pose or flow to be out of your comfort zone, don't worry!  Stop for a moment, take a break, and join us again when you are ready.  Do what you can do, in this moment, today.

We move through gentle and restorative poses for about 30 to 40 minutes, then through a guided meditation or an iRest Yoga Nidra practice that lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

Helpful hints about preparing for class

It will be helpful if you have a few things handy for practice.
  • A mat to keep you from slipping.
  • A strap or belt of some kind.  A bathrobe belt works well.
  • A bath towel that is rolled up.  Better yet, make it a beach towel; roll it the long way.
  • A couple of pillows.  Couch pillows work well.
  • We sometimes use a round bolster, and sometimes we use a rectangular bolster.
  • Two yoga blocks or large books the size of shoe box.
For meditation be as comfortable as possible.  Have the following handy:
  • A blanket to cover yourself
  • A pillow or towel for your under your head
  • Socks and/or a sweat shirt to keep warm.
  • Bolster for under your knees.
  • Hand pillows (weights) for comfort.

Looking forward to "seeing you" on Wednesdays!
